PHOTONICS SOLUTIONS FOR MEDICINE, ENVIRONMENT AND CULTURAL HERITAGE
is a Slovak high-tech company established as a spin-off from the P. J. Safarik University, Kosice, Slovakia in 2014. The development and the business strategies of the company are based on the research activities of the group led by prof. Pavol Miskovsky, the head of the Center for Interdisciplinary Biosciences at the P. J. Safarik University, mainly in the fields of photonics and biomedical research.
The mission of SAFTRA Photonics lies in providing a wide range of market driven research and development activities in the field of (nano)photonics science and technology transfer primarily focused on testing, analyses and controlling processes applied in medicine, environment, and cultural heritage.
The long-term vision of SAFTRA Photonics is based on synergy between research performing in the Center for interdisciplinary biosciences, education in biophysics executed by Department of Biophysics of the P. J. Safarik University and related technology transfer implemented by SAFTRA Photonics. Sharing of the common laboratory space by all three institutions assure a high efficiency of such collaboration and has an important impact even for an economic and social development of the region.
prof. RNDr. Pavol Miskovsky, PhD, DrSc.
Prof. Miskovsky (CEO) obtained his PhD degree in Biophysics in 1986 at Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic and DrSc. degree in Biophysics in 2000 at Comenius University Bratislava, Slovakia. Since then he has been holding a position of full-time professor in Physics at the P. J. Safarik University. Prof. Miskovsky´s invited professor positions include: University of Paris VI (France), University of Orleans (France), Instituto de Estructura de la Materia, CSIC, Madrid (Spain), Fulbright fellowship at Iowa State University, Ames (USA). He published his scientific results in 124 peer-reviewed articles (including six invited reviews) with more than 1000 citations in SCI. P.M. is a member of the executive committee the European Biophysical Societies Association and the member of the executive board of the pan-European infrastructure network Euro-bioImaging.
